Fayez Abu Shita (ºca 1971) was a Bedouin jihadi active on the Sinai Peninsula. He was a member of the Assembly of Monotheism and Jihad in the Sinai [JTJS; Jama’at Tawhid wal-Jihad fi-Sina’a] in the mid-2000s.1 He was apprehended as the Egyptian authorities cracked down on the group. Abu Shita spent many years in prison before he was released in the wake of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.2

Abu Shita served as an informal commander of Bedouin jihadis until Egyptian security forces eliminated him during a raid on his house in Arish on Aug. 31, 2014.3 He had been involved in several attacks, including the March 2013 abduction of seven members of the security forces and the August 2013 execution of 25 police officers near Rafah.4 Abu Shita is also known to have personally shot dead captured soldiers and once beheaded a civilian.5 He eventually linked up with the Partisans of the Holy House [ABaM; Ansar Bait al-Maqdis].6
