Mohammed Awad (°1975) is an Egyptian jihadi from the Zawya el-Hamra suburb of Qahira. He long worked for a local oil company.1 In 1999, Awad helped set up a small association of followers of Islamist ideologue Sayyid Qutb.2 By the late 2010s, he and several of his companions had become devoted to jihad. They eventually established a militant cell; the Zizo el-Minyawi Module [ZMM]. Awad served as its leader.

Awad helped prepare and execute the Aug. 11, 2018, suicide bomb attack on a Coptic church in Mostorod by one his associates.3 Only two people were injured in the blast. Casualties were limited because police had prevented the attacker from entering the church. The Egyptian authorities quickly rolled up the ZMM following the incident. Awad was arrested at his home.4
