Ahmed al-Arjani is an Egyptian Bedouin militant and former military commander of the Assembly of the Soldiers of Islam [JJaI; Jama’at Jund al-Islam].1 In the summer of 2018, he and his associates were expelled from the group for their insubordination.2 The JJaI acknowledged the debacle in a communiqué distributed on social media on Aug. 25, 2018.3 Arjani and his men reportedly attacked a military position following their expulsion. The leader of the JJaI was allegedly killed in the ensuing operation by security forces.4 Arjani’s current activities and status are unknown.
