Abdullah al-Amiri is a law graduate and jihadi from Egypt.1 The supporter of the al-Qa’ida movement took part in mass protests by Islamists following the July 2013 army coup against Muslim Brotherhood president Mohammed Morsi.2 Amiri got acquainted with Ibrahim Azab at the sit-in protest site on the Raba’a al-Adawiya square in Cairo.3 Following the August 2013 crackdown on the demonstrations by the security forces, both men wanted to avenge the deaths of Islamist protesters. Amiri helped Azab in setting up the Salafi cell of the Askar and Azab Network [AAN] later in the summer.4 His two brothers also joined the network.5 Amiri helped supply the AAN with weapons, ammunition and explosives.6 He used his apartment to store the cache and organized meetings where AAN members discussed their plans. Amiri conducted surveillance and helped make preparations for assassinations of policemen in Mansoura.7 He was apprehended on Mar. 06, 2014 as the authorities cracked down on the AAN following the killing of a police officer a few days earlier.8
