As senior cadres of the JTJS got killed or captured in 2004 and 2005, he rose through the ranks to become the group’s second-in-command by early 2006.1 Hamadeen reportedly helped oversee preparations for the Apr. 24, 2006 bombings in Dahab.2 He was also linked to the failed bomb attack against peacekeepers two days later. Hamadeen died on May 22, 2006 when he accidently blew himself up while trying to hurl a bomb at security forces who raided his hideout in Rafah.3
