Enis Sulejmani (°ca 1996) is a Serbian-born jihadi from the Walloon city of Verviers. He received Belgian citizenship as a child.¹ As a young man, Sulejmani was unemployed. He became a supporter of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant [DaIISh; Dawlat al-Islamiya fi-Iraq wal ash-Sham]. Sulejmani was in close contact with Iraqi-based DaIISh operative Tarik Jadaoun.² On Jadaoun’s orders, he made plans to carry out attacks in Belgium and France.³ Sulejmani recruited minors and tried to acquire weapons.⁴ Together with a Belgian convert to Islam, he made plans to attack a nightclub in Rumes.⁵ Sulejmani also discussed attacked crowded venues in Liège.⁶ He also was instructed by Jadaoun to kill an imam from Verviers.⁷

The authorities were warned of Sulejmani’s activities by the parents of his Belgian associate.⁸ On Jun. 24, 2016, police arrested Sulejmani at his home in the village of Ensival.⁹ At the same time, his Belgian companion was apprehended in the province of Hainaut.¹⁰ Two other associates were also briefly held.¹¹ Sulejmani refused to attend his subsequent trial.¹² Judges sentenced him to ten years in prison on Jun. 13, 2018.¹³ He was also stripped of his Belgian nationality.¹⁴
