Nabil Kasmi (°ca. 1993) is a jihadi operative from Antwerp. He was a prominent member of the Shari’a for Belgium Movement [Sh4B] and acted as its chief ideologue.1 Kasmi was coached by influential jihadi preacher Omar Bakri.2 He opened relations between members of Sh4B and jihadi groups active in Iraq and Syria.

In November 2011, Kasmi traveled to the Lebanese city of Tripoli to meet Bakri in person. During the visit, Bakri put the Sh4B operative in contact with representatives of Syrian jihadi organizations.3 Kasmi returned to Belgium after a few months.4 He further developed his relations with Syrian jihadis in a subsequent visit to Lebanon and Syria in mid-2012.5 During the journey, Kasmi allegedly became the first jihadi from Belgium to have traveled to Syria.

In the summer of 2012, Kasmi permanently moved to Syria where he joined the Holy Warriors Consultative Council [MSM; Majlis Shura al-Mujahideen].6 Very little information is available on his subsequent activities. He is believed to have eventually joined the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant [DaIISh; Dawlat al-Islamiya fi-Iraq wal ash-Sham].7 His current status is unknown.

In February 2015, an Antwerp court convicted him in absentia to twelve years in prison for his involvement with Sh4B.8
