Abdelkrim el-Haddouti was a little-known jihadi operative of North African descent from the Belgian town of Vilvoorde. He was deeply involved in criminal actitivies and was reportedly linked to a robbery of a German airplane at the Brussels airport in 2000.1 Haddouti served as the deputy of al-Qa’ida associate Nizar Trabelsi.2 He was involved in preparations to attack a joint American-Belgian military base in Limburg and helped procure explosives.3 At the same time, Haddouti was also tied to the key members of the Moumen, Tarik and Gouram Module [MTGM]; a jihadi network active in northern Brussels.4 He was also believed to have been in contact with al-Qa’ida terrorist Richard Reid who tried to blow up an aircraft using a bomb hidden in shoe during a transatlantic flight.5
On Sep. 13, 2001, Haddouti was arrested at his apartment as Belgian police roled up the Nizar Trabelsi Module [NTM].6 A court gave him a five-year prison sentence in September 2003.7 The government later stripped Haddouti of his Belgian citizenship.8 His current status is unknown.
