Olivier Calebout (°1987) is a jihadi from the Flemish city of Kortrijk. Together with his brother, he converted to Islam at a ceremony organized by the Shari’a for Belgium Movement [Sh4B] in December 2012.1 Calebout subsequently began spreading Salafi ideas among young Muslims in and around Kortrijk.2 He and his brother maintained close contacts with Antwerp-based former Sh4B members.3 They eventually attracted a small following of radicalized converts and North Africans immigrants.

In April 2014, Calebout and two associates traveled to Syria and joined the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant [DaIISh; Dawlat al-Islamiya fi-Iraq wal ash-Sham].4 From the Middle East, he continued reaching out to followers in Flanders.5 At the same time, Calebout and his brother made vague plans to carry out attacks in Belgium.6 In February 2018, police arrested a woman of Moroccan descent in Barcelona as she was preparing to travel to Syria to marry Calebout.7
