Hani Badr (°1990) is a little-known jihadi from Cairo. In the early 2010s, he went to Syria and fought in the ranks of the jihadi forces.1 Badr was given advanced training in explosives manufacturing.2 By late 2013, he had returned to Egypt and joined the Partisans of Shari’a in the Land of Egypt [ASAK; Ansar al-Shari’a fi-Ard al-Kinana]. Badr served as an advisor to ASAK chief Sayed Morsi and introduced members of the group to bomb-making, tactical preparations and target surveillance.3 Egyptian security forces apprehended him during their crackdown on the ASAK in 2014. He was subsequently brought to trial. Badr behaved unruly during the proceedings and was given a two-year prison sentence for insulting the judiciary in 2016.4 In late 2018, a court sentenced him to fifteen years in prison for his role in the ASAK.5
