Mohammed Gad (°1983) was an Egyptian jihadi from Helwan. Formerly associated with the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Helwan Brigades [KH; Kataeb Helwan], he eventually joined the Reinforcements of Egypt [AM; Ajnad Misr].1 Gad became closely associated with senior AM operative Ahmed Galal. Following his death in January 2016, Gad sought to avenge him and began preparing to launch attacks.2 On Feb. 03, 2016, security forces eliminated him during a raid on his hideout in Cairo’s Ma’adi neighborhood.3 Explosives, bomb parts and firearms were seized during the operation.

The Egyptian authorities have also linked Gad to the October 2015 killing of a government-allied Bedouin tribal leader from the Sinai outside his residence in Obour.4 Militants affiliated to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant [DaIISh; Dawlat al-Islamiya fi-Iraq wal ash-Sham] were responsible for the killing. Gad’s link to the DaIISh was never revealed.
