Militant Incidents in Thailand (June 2013)

1. Jun. 01 – Militants opened fire at a paramilitary patrol in the Johirong district of the Narathiwat province, killing a soldier and wounding several colleagues. [BP]
2. Jun. 01 – A civilian was shot to death by assailants outside his home in the Yaring district of the Pattani province. [BP]
3. Jun. 02 – Three youths were shot and wounded by gunmen at a sports field in the Sungai Kolok district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]
4. Jun. 03 – A deputy village headman was shot and killed by militants as he was driving home following a meeting in Pattani‘s Yaring district. [BP]
5. Jun. 03 – Attackers bombed and shot up the vehicle of a local government official in the Yarang district of the Pattani province. Nobody was hurt in the attack. [BP & Nat]
6. Jun. 04 – Militants detonated a roadside bomb as a paramilitary patrol passed by Pattani‘s Yaring district, wounding five soldiers. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
7. Jun. 04 – Three civilians were wounded when two bombs exploded at a mobile phone shop in the Sukhirin district of the Narathiwat province. [BP & Nat]
8. Jun. 04 – A roadside bomb exploded as the convoy of a local government official passed by in the Yarang district of the Pattani province. No one was wounded in the attack. [BP]
9. Jun. 05 – Two samll bombs exploded on streets in the town of Sungai Kolok, in the Narathiwat province. Nobody was hurt in the blasts. [MCOT]
10. Jun. 07 – Gunmen shot and killed a defense volunteer as he was riding a motorcycle in the town of Yala. [BP]
11. Jun. 10 – A soldier was killed and another one was wounded when an army foot patrol was hit in a roadside bomb blast in the Yarang district of the Pattani province. [BP & MCOT]
12. Jun. 10 – A defense volunteer was shot to death by terrorists at a teashop in the Sungai Kolok district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]
13. Jun. 11 – The building housing a traffic police control room was set ablaze by Malay militants in Pattani‘s Nongchik district. [BP]
14. Jun. 12 – Militants bombed and destroyed a replica canon in front of a historic mosque in the city of Pattani. The original canon was captured by the Thai during the conquest of the region more than 200 years earlier and acts as a symbol for Pattani separatism. [MCOT]
15. Jun. 12 – The brother of a defense volunteer was killed in a drive-by shooting attack by terrorists outside his home in the Kapho district of the Pattani province. [BP]

19. Jun. 13 – Assailants set fire to a school building and a mobile phone tower in Pattani‘s Khokpho district. [BP]
20. Jun. 13 – Militants set off a bomb as paramilitary troops passed by in the Saiburi district of the Pattani province, injuring a soldier. [BP]
21. Jun. 16 – A roadside bomb exploded as Thai troops passed by on motorcycles in the Yingo district of the Narathiwat province. None of the soldiers were hurt in the blast. [BP]
22. Jun. 16 – A gunman shot and killed an off-duty navy officer as he was fishing on a beach in Pattani‘s Maikaen district. [BP]
23. Jun. 17 – A policeman was shot to death by terrorists as he was praying inside a mosque in Yala‘s Raman district. [BP]
24. Jun. 18 – A bomb exploded at a bus stop in the Sungai Padi district of the Narathiwat province. Nobody was hurt in the attack. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
25. Jun. 18 – Militants detonated a bomb as an army foot patrol passed by in Pattani‘s Mayo district, killing a soldier and injuring a colleague. A child was also hurt in the attack. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
26. Jun. 18 – A bomb exploded at a shack where Thai troops were taking a break in the Raman district of the Yala province. Three soldiers were hurt in the blast. [BP & Nat]
27. Jun. 18 – A retired soldier was shot to death by gunmen as he was riding his motorcycle in the Nongchik district of the Pattani province. [BP & Nat]
28. Jun. 18 – A roadside bomb went off as a police pickup truck passed by in the Krong Penang district of the Yala province, killing an officer and injuring seven colleagues. [BP & MCOT]
29. Jun. 18 – Terrorists opened fire at three off-duty paramilitary soldiers as they were traveling on a motorcycle in the Kapho district of the Pattani province. One of the soldiers was killed and the two others were wounded in the attack. [BP]
30. Jun. 20 – A soldier and a policeman were wounded in a shootout with RKK militants as security forces raided their hideout in the Raman district of the Yala province. One of the terrorists was eliminated in the operation. [BP & MCOT]
31. Jun. 20 – A roadside bomb exploded next to an army foot patrol in the Mayo district of the Pattani province. Five soldiers sustained injuries in the attack. [BP & MCOT]
32. Jun. 20 – Gunmen shot and killed a village chief in front of his house in the Raman district of the Yala province. [MCOT]
33. Jun. 22 – Two soldiers were killed and four colleagues were wounded when their pickup truck was struck in a roadside bomb explosion in Pattani‘s Nongchik district. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
34. Jun. 23 – Three paramilitary soldiers were wounded when their pickup truck was hit in a roadside bomb explosion in the Muang district of the Yala province. Three passers-by were also hurt in the attack. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
35. Jun. 24 – A roadside bomb exploded as Thai troops passed by in the Muang district of the Pattani province, injuring a soldier. [BP]
36. Jun. 25 – The director of a Muslim seminary was killed and his wife was injured when gunmen shot them at their home in Pattani‘s Yarang district. [BP]
37. Jun. 26 – Two soldiers were injured as a roadside bomb exploded as Thai troops passed by on motorcycles in the Muang district of the Yala province. [BP]
38. Jun. 26 – An air force officer was killed and three soldiers were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded as military vehicles passed by in the Thungyang Daeng district of the Pattani province. Three civilians were also hurt in the blast. [BP & Nat]
39. Jun. 27 – Militants shot and killed a woman as she was riding a motorcycle with her two children in the Muang district of the Yala province. A boy was hurt in the shooting. [BP]
40. Jun. 27 – A roadside bomb exploded as a paramilitary vehicle passed by in the Yarang district of the Pattani province. Nobody was injured in the blast. [BP]
41. Jun. 28 – Gunmen shot and killed a village chief as he was praying at a mosque in Narathiwat‘s Chanae district. [BP]
42. Jun. 28 – A bomb attached to a motorcycle exploded outside a tea shop in the Nathawi district of the Songkhla province. Two people, including a retired policeman, were killed and six others, including a local council members and a school principal, were wounded in the blast. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
43. Jun. 28 – A soldier was wounded in a gun battle between militants and Thai troops during a raid on their hideout in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. [MCOT & Nat]
44. Jun. 29 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army truck passed by in the Krong Penang district of the Yala province, killing eight soldiers and injuring two colleagues. Two civilians were also hurt in the attack. [MCOT, Nat & Reut]
45. Jun. 30 – A retired paramilitary soldier was shot to death by gunmen as he was riding a motorcycle in the Nongchik district of the Pattani province. [BP]
46. Jun. 30 – Assailants burnt 21 CCTV cameras across the Bacho, Chanae, Johirong, Muang and Sisakhon districts of the Narathiwat province. [BP & Nat]
