Militant Incidents in Thailand (May 2013)

1. May 01 – Malay terrorists shot up a grocery store in the Muang district of the Pattani province, killing six civilians and wounding another one. Five of the dead were Buddhists. [AP, BP, MCOT, Nat & Reut]
2. May 02 – A motorcycle-borne gunman fired shots at a police booth in the Yingo district of the Narathiwat province. Nobody was hurt in the attack. [BP]
3. May 02 – An off-duty paramilitary soldier was shot and seriously wounded as he was riding pillion on his friend’s motorcycle in the Sungai Kolok district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]
4. May 03 – Assailants shot and killed a provincial government official as he left his house in his pickup truck in the town of Khonkaen. Rogue elements within the local police were behind the attack. [BP]
5. May 04 – A band of gunmen shot and killed the driver of a passing truck in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]
6. May 04 – Gunmen shot and killed an army informant as he was riding on a motorcycle in the Mayo district of the Pattani province. [BP & MCOT]
7. May 05 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army patrol passed by in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. Militants subsequently fired at the troops. Two soldiers were killed and three colleagues were wounded in the attack. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
8. May 05 – The town hall and two other local government offices were set ablaze by militants in the Yarang district of the Pattani province. [BP & Nat]
9. May 05 – Two mobile phone towers were burnt by attackers in the Maelan district of the Pattani province. [BP & Nat]
10. May 05 – Three local government offices were set alight by militants in Pattani‘s Mayo district. [BP & Nat]
11. May 05 – Malay militants set fire to two local government offices in the Nongchik district of the Pattani province. [BP & Nat]
12. May 06 – Militants shot and killed a deputy village chief as he was riding home on a motorcycle in Narathiwat‘s Bacho district. [BP]
13. May 07 – A municipal employee was shot to death by terrorists as he arrived at a restaurant in the Muang district of the Pattani province. [BP & MCOT]
14. May 08 – A local government official was killed and a companion was wounded when gunmen shot them as they were riding on a motorcycle in the Sisakhon district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]
15. May 09 – A bomb exploded outside a department store in the city of Pattani. No one was hurt in the blast. [Nat]
16. May 09 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police vehicle passed by in the Yaring district of the Pattani province. No one was hurt in the blast. [BP & Nat]
17. May 09 – Four policemen and two civilians were wounded when a bomb exploded outside a car dealership in the Muang district of the Yala province. [BP]
18. May 10 – Two civilians were killed when gunmen raked their pickup truck with gunfire in the Kapho district of the Pattani province. [MCOT]
19. May 11 – A soldier was injured when militants opened fire at Thai troops who raided their hideout in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. One of the terrorists was eliminated in the ensuing gun battle. [BP, MCOT &Nat]
20. May 13 – Militants shot and wounded a civilian at his rubber plantation in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. [BP & MCOT]
21. May 13 – Gunmen shot and killed a Muslim worker at a rubber plantation in Yala‘s Yaha district. [BP]
22. May 13 – Motorcycle-borne militants hurled a hand grenade at a house in the Muang district of the Pattani province. A woman was hurt in the blast. [BP]
23. May 15 – A civilian was shot dead by militants as he was riding a motorcycle in the Nongchik district of the Pattani province. [BP]
24. May 18 – Six civilians were wounded when a bomb exploded at a hotel in Narathiwat‘s Sungai Kolok district. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
25. May 20 – An off-duty paramilitary soldier was shot dead after gunmen had stopped her car in the Saiburi district of the Pattani province. The soldier’s mother and her two children were hurt in the attack. [BP]
26. May 22 – A Buddhist grocer was shot to death by Malay militants in Narathiwat‘s Sungai Padi district. [MCOT & Nat]
27. May 23 – A soldier was killed and a colleague was wounded when RKK militants opened fire at paramilitary forces who raided the house in which the terrorists were holed up in Narathiwat‘s Johirong district. One of the gunmen was eliminated in the operation. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
28. May 24 – A roadside bomb exploded as a pickup truck carrying paramilitary personnel passed by in the Saiburi district of the Pattani province. Five soldiers were killed and a colleague was seriously wounded in the attack. [BP, MCOT &Nat]
29. May 25 – Three electricity pylons were blown up by militants in the Kabang district of the Yala province. Power supply was disrupted in the area. [BP]
30. May 25 – Gunmen fired shots at a police checkpoint in the Sungai Padi district of the Narathiwat province. A bomb later exploded at the site as policemen investigated the scene. No one was hurt in the incident. [BP, MCOT &Nat]
31. May 25 – A local civilian was shot and injured by motorcycle-borne gunmen outside a school in Pattani‘s Yarang district. [BP]
32. May 25 – Five soldiers were hurt when an army pickup truck was struck in a roadside bomb blast in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
33. May 25 – Terrorists bombed and destroyed five electricity poles in the Yaha district of the Yala province, disrupting power supply. [BP & MCOT]
34. May 25 – A civilian was shot dead by gunmen as he was driving his pickup truck in the Yarang district of the Pattani province. [BP]
35. May 25 – A police bomb disposal expert was killed and four colleagues were wounded when militants bombed and shot up their vehicle on a highway in the Muang district of the Yala province. Three civilians, including a Burmese national, were also hurt in the blast. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
36. May 26 – Gunmen shot and killed a rubber tapper as she arrived at a plantation in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]

38. May 26 – Seven civilians were wounded when a bomb exploded at a busy market in the Ramkhamhaeng neighborhood of Bangkok. [BP & MCOT]
39. May 27 – A roadside bomb exploded as a border police vehicle passed by on a highway in the Saiburi district of the Pattani province, killing an officer and wounding four others. [BP & MCOT]
40. May 27 – A paramilitary soldier was killed and three colleagues were wounded when a bomb exploded at a school in Pattani‘s Saiburi district. [BP & MCOT]
41. May 28 – Militants shot and killed a rubber tapper at a plantation in Narathiwat‘s Rueso district. [BP & MCOT]
42. May 28 – Terrorists fired two grenades at an army post in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. No one was hurt in the attack. [BP]
43. May 29 – Two soldiers were killed when gunmen ambushed a paramilitary unit in the Maelan district of the Pattani province. [MCOT & Nat]
44. May 29 – A worker was shot to death by terrorists at a rubber plantation in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. [Nat]
45. May 30 – A headmaster was wounded when gunmen fired at his vehicle as he was driving home from work in the Sungai Padi district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]
46. May 30 – A bomb fixed to a motorcycle exploded as a police car passed by in the Waeng district of the Narathiwat province, killing an officer and injuring a colleague. Three civilians were also hurt in the attack. [BP]
