Militant Incidents in Thailand (April 2013)

1. Apr. 01 – Fifteen CCTV surveillance cameras were set on fire by militants in Pattani‘s Khokpho district. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
2. Apr. 01 – Malay militants abducted a Thai marine from his home in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. The soldier was found shot to death the following day. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
3. Apr. 02 – Two officers were wounded when a border police patrol was targeted in the blast of an explosives-rigged motorcycle in the Yarang district of the Pattani province. [BP & MCOT]
4. Apr. 02 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army patrol passed by in Pattani‘s Muang district, wounding two soldiers. [BP & Nat]
5. Apr. 02 – Attackers fired a grenade at a local government office in the Chanae district of the Narathiwat province. No one was hurt in the incident. [BP]
6. Apr. 03 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army bus passed by on a highway in the Krong Pinang district of the Yala province, killing a soldier and wounding nineteen colleagues. Assailants subsequently fired at the troops, sparking a brief gun battle. [BP & MCOT]
7. Apr. 03 – Gunmen shot and killed a local government official in front of his residence in Pattani‘s Thung Yangdaeng district. [BP]
8. Apr. 04 – A small bomb went off at an army recruitment office in the Rangae district of the Narathiwat province. No one was hurt in the attack. [BP]
9. Apr. 05 – A roadside bomb exploded next to the passing vehicle of the deputy provincial governorin the Yala province, killing the official and a senior employee of the disaster management employee. Their driver was seriously injured in the attack. [BP, MCOT, Nat & Reut]
10. Apr. 06 – A roadside bomb exploded as a pickup truck carrying defense volunteers passed by in the Sisakhon district of the Narathiwat province. One of the volunteers was hurt in the blast. [BP & MCOT]
11. Apr. 07 – Four policemen were wounded when their pickup truck was struck in a landmine explosion in Narathiwat‘s Johirong district. [BP & MCOT]
12. Apr. 07 – Terrorists beheaded a rubber tapper at a plantation in the Thanto district of the Yala province. [BP]
13. Apr. 07 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army patrol passed by in Narathiwat‘s Rueso district, injuring two soldiers. [MCOT]
14. Apr. 07 – Militants detonated a roadside bomb as two soldiers were passing by on a motorcycle in the Rangae district of the Narathiwat province. Both soldiers were subsequently shot to death by the attackers. [BP, MCOT & Nat]

20. Apr. 10 – A fishing boat was damaged in a bomb blast on a pier in Pattani‘s Saiburi district. [BP & Nat]
21. Apr. 10 – An office of an agricultural cooperative and a mobile phone tower were set alight by militants in the Maikaen district of the Pattani province. [BP & Nat]
22. Apr. 10 – Assailants set fire to an arts center and two mobile phone towers in the Saiburi district of the Pattani province. [BP & Nat]
23. Apr. 10 – Terrorists opened fire at defense volunteers guarding a foot store in the Panare district of the Pattani province. No one was hurt in the attack. [BP & Nat]
24. Apr. 10 – Two fishing boats were bombed by terrorists at piers in the Muang district of the Pattani province. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
25. Apr. 10 – Militants sprayed gunfire on a paramilitary outpost in the Saiburi district of the Pattani province. Nobody was wounded in the shooting. [BP]

35. Apr. 15 – Militants opened fire at a pickup truck used for public transportation in the Mayo district of the Pattani province, killing the driver. [Nat]

38. Apr. 16 – A soldier was critically hurt when a band of militants attacked a paramilitary checkpoint with grenades and gunfire in Narathiwat‘s Sisakhon district. [BP & Nat]
39. Apr. 18 – A civilian was shot to death by unidentified assailants as he was tending to his garden in the Yaring district of the Pattani province. [BP]

43. Apr. 19 – Motorcycle-borne militants shot and killed a former village head outside a mosque in the Thung Yangdaeng district of the Yala province. [BP & MCOT]
44. Apr. 21 – Militants opened fire at two Buddhist women riding a motorcycle in Pattani‘s Khokpho district, killing one of them and injuring the other. [BP]
45. Apr. 22 – A soldier was wounded when he removed an explosives-rigged banner in the Rangae district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]
46. Apr. 22 – Gunmen shot and injured two women as they were riding a motorcycle in Pattani‘s Khokpho district. [BP & Nat]
47. Apr. 22 – A civilian and his two children were wounded when their pickup truck was hit in a roadside bomb blast in Narathiwat‘s Rangae district. A passing paramilitary vehicle was targeted in the attack. [BP & Nat]
48. Apr. 22 – Four soldiers were killed and six colleagues were wounded when a second trigger mechanism set off a previously disarmed bomb as it was brought into a naval base in Narathiwat‘s Bacho district. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
49. Apr. 27 – A paramilitary soldier was shot and critically injured as he was traveling to work in the Saiburi district of the Pattani province. The soldier succumbed to his wounds later that day. [BP & MCOT]
50. Apr. 27 – A roadside bomb exploded as a paramilitary foot patrol passed by in Pattani‘s Saiburi district. Two soldiers were hurt in the attack. [BP & MCOT]
51. Apr. 28 – Militants opened fire at defense volunteers outside their post in the Yingo district of the Narathiwat province. One of the volunteers was wounded in the shooting. [BP]
52. Apr. 29 – A rubber tapper was shot dead by gunmen as he was traveling home from work in the Thanto district of the Yala province. [BP]
