Overview of incidents

  1. Jan. 04 – Terrorists opened fire at an army truck in the Muang district of the Pattani province, killing a soldier and wounding five colleagues. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
  2. Jan. 05 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire at a defense volunteers’ post in the Srisakhon district of the Narathiwat province. The wife of one of the volunteers was killed in the attack. [BP]
  3. Jan. 05 – A woman was shot and seriously hurt by gunmen as she was riding home on a motorcycle in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]
  4. Jan. 09 – Militants fired into a karaoke bar in the town of Narathiwat. A bomb fixed to a motorcycle exploded at the site shortly afterwards. Five people were hurt in the incident. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
  5. Jan. 09 – Suspected RKK fighters fired two grenades at an army post in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. No one was hurt in the incident. [BP & MCOT]
  6. Jan. 11 – Two soldiers were killed and two colleagues were seriously wounded when an army patrol was targeted in a roadside bomb explosion in the Yarang district of the Pattani province. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
  7. Jan. 11 – Two traffic policemen were shot to death by Islamic militants as they patrolled a road in the Saiburi district of the Pattani province. [BP]
  8. Jan. 14 – More than seventy CCTV security cameras were set on fire by bands of unidentified assailants as numerous locations across the province of Yala. [BP & Nat]
  9. Jan. 16 – A local government official was shot and seriously injured when gunmen raked his pickup truck with gunfire as he was traveling to work in the Pattani‘s Thung Yangdaeng district. [MCOT & Nat]
  10. Jan. 17 – Attackers shot and killed an elderly Muslim rubber tapper at his house in the Khokpho district of the Pattani province. [BP]
  11. Jan. 17 – Terrorists shot and killed the driver of a minibus that was taking children to a kindergarten in Narathiwat‘s Rueso district. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
  12. Jan. 17 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen fired at garbage truck in the Khokpho district of the Pattani province, injuring three collectors. [BP]
  13. Jan. 17 – A retired navy sailor was shot to death by terrorists in the Bannang Sata district of the Yala province. The assailants subsequently bombed and shot up Thai army vehicles as they traveled to the scene. No additional casualties were inflicted. [MCOT & Nat]
  14. Jan. 21 – A village chief was killed and his companion was seriously injured when terrorists raked their car with gunfire in the Mayo district of the Pattani province. [BP]
  15. Jan. 21 – Gunmen fired at a family riding a motorcycle in the Nongchik district of the Pattani province, killing a youth and wounding his stepfather. [BP & Nat]
  16. Jan. 22 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army patrol passed by in the Khokpho district of the Pattani province, wounding three soldiers. [BP & Nat]
  17. Jan. 23 – A sniper shot and critically injured a soldier as Thai troops were having a break at a tea stall in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]
  18. Jan. 23 – Militants fired shots at a pickup truck carrying children to a kindergarten in Narathiwat‘s Rueso district. No one was hurt in the incident. [BP]
  19. Jan. 23 – Gunmen shot and killed a school teacher as he was having lunch in the cafeteria of a school in Narathiwat‘s Bacho district. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
  20. Jan. 24 – A deputy village chief was shot and killed by terrorists inside his home in the Mayo district of the Pattani province. [BP]
  21. Jan. 27 – Twelve CCTV security cameras were set alight by militants in the Mayo and Panare districts of the Narathiwat province. [Nat]
  22. Jan. 28 – Unknown assailants destroyed more than twenty CCTV security cameras in a series of arson attacks at different locations across the Pattani province. [BP & Nat]
  23. Jan. 28 – A bomb exploded along a stretch of empty road in the Thung Yangdaeng district of the Pattani province. [Nat]
  24. Jan. 29 – A couple was shot to death by terrorists as they were riding a motorcycle in the Sungai Padi district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]
  25. Jan. 30 – A soldier was killed and two others were wounded when an army pickup truck was hit in a roadside bomb explosion in the Muang district of the Narathiwat province. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
  26. Jan. 30 – Militants detonated a bomb planted in a cart as teachers escorted by defense volunteers passed by in the Johirong district of the Narathiwat province. One volunteer was hurt in the blast. [BP & MCOT]
  27. Jan. 30 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army patrol passed by in Narathiwat‘s Chanae district. Nobody was hurt in the blast. [MCOT]
  28. Jan. 31 – A civilian was shot to death by terrorists as he was riding his motorcycle in the Raman district of the Yala province. [BP]
  29. Jan. 31 – Four soldiers were wounded when militants raked an army jeep with gunfire in the Sisakhon district of the Narathiwat province. The attackers detonated a roadside bomb as other Thai troops arrived at the scene, causing no additional casualties. [BP]
